A TALENTED West Fife trio have rounded off a hugely successful year by being named Junior Gymnasts of the Year.

Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands, who are members of Acrobay Gymnastics Club, travelled to Edinburgh for Scottish Gymnastics' annual awards ceremony last month.

The event, which showcased the achievements, dedication and talent of members from across the gymnastics community, saw 18-year-olds Erin and Sacha, and Chloe, 15, chosen as finalists in their category from more than 100 nominations for individuals and clubs.

The gymnasts, who train for more than 20 hours a week with the Rosyth-based club, were feted at the ceremony after enjoying a magnificent year in a host of competitions.

Having already been crowned Scottish champions, the girls took home gold at the British Championships in Stoke in February at age 13-19 (junior) level.

They followed up that success in April when, as part of the Great Britain team, they travelled to Antwerp, Belgium, to compete at the World Age Group Championships.

In doing so, Erin, Sacha and Chloe became the first ever junior Scottish partnership to represent GB at the competition and, in addition, they produced an outstanding performance to finish fourth.

More recently, they also won gold at the Pat Wade Classic – a major British competition held in Stoke-on-Trent – and have now moved on to compete at senior level.

The Acrobay gymnasts have been selected to represent GB once more – this time in next year's Acro World Cup in Maia, Portugal – and to trial for the team ahead of the 2019 European Games, which take place in Belarus in June.

Proud head coach Suzanne Fraser, who herself was selected as a finalist in the nominations for Coach of the Year, said: "The girls have had an amazing year, and this award is the well-deserved icing on the cake for them.

"It's a massive achievement, not only for the gymnasts, club and coaches but also the whole Scottish Acrobatics community.

"They are an inspiration to all gymnasts in Scotland and living proof that hard work, dedication and commitment really pays off."
