Rosyth 3 Armadale Thistle 3

ROSYTH boss Brian Muirhead insists his side are in a false position after watching them fight back to claim a point with 10 men on Saturday.

Their match with second-top Armadale Thistle was the only fixture on the junior card to beat the weather thanks to the artificial surface at the Fleet Grounds and talisman Tam Hampson's treble ensured they came away with a share of the spoils.

The prolific Rec hitman came to his team's rescue in the final minute when, after finding themselves 3-2 down following Mikey MacMillan's 78th minute red card, he won and converted a spot-kick to extend their unbeaten league run to three matches.

A week on from the Scottish Junior Cup exit at Glasgow giants Pollok, Rosyth made a lightening start to the game and were in front after just five minutes when Hampson finished well after some fine build-up play.

But promotion-chasing Thistle, unbeaten on the road in the league this season, hit back through Colin Leiper on the half hour before Colin Allison turned the game on its head shortly before half-time.

Muirhead's team-talk at the interval had the desired effect though as a deft backheel from Hampson hauled Rosyth level three minutes after the restart.

They went in search of a winner but, after MacMillan saw red, Ryan Slessor looked to have won it for Armadale with five minutes to go, only for Hampson to rescue a draw and claim the match ball.

"I always feel that, the game after the Scottish Junior Cup, you're always vulnerable," Muirhead told Press Sport.

"I was pleased in the end; that's four points we've taken from them, and they're second. We're in a false position and need to grind out three or four results.

"It's frustrating because they know as a group, and we know as a management team, what they're capable of, but we're a young team. I've got maybe four players who have played junior for any great length of time.

"If we can finish in the top half, I'd be delighted, and if we can finish top of the Fife teams, I'd be ecstatic."
