ORGANISERS of Dunfermline Parkrun have cancelled this weekend's event due to a funeral taking place in Pittencrieff Park.

The weekly event, first held in the Glen in the summer of 2016, is a free, volunteer-led event in which participants run 5km against the clock.

They are held in more than 400 locations across the UK every Saturday, taking place in parkland surroundings with the aim of encouraging people of all abilities to take part, but tomorrow's race is off.

In a post on their Facebook page, a parkrun spokesperson said: "Unfortunately we will have to cancel our parkrun this Saturday (16th February).

"We have been advised that a large funeral is taking place in the Glen on Saturday morning at 10am. It would be inappropriate for us to go ahead as the hearse will be parked in front of the Pavilion and there will be mourners using the car park and paths which are our route.

"We will cancel on our website and attempt to contact as many of our parkrunners by email as possible, however ask if you could please pass news of the cancellation on to other Dunfermline parkrunners, especially those not using social media."
