ACROBAY Gymnastics Club are celebrating more medal glory after three of their partnerships struck gold while competing for their country last weekend.

Mia Logan, Jasmine Parris and Isla Rourke (Youth Women's Groups), Eve Gillies and Sophie Humphries (Age 11-16 Women's Pairs), and Rebecca Stewart, Ellie Horstmann and Scarlett Haldane (Age 12-18 Women's Groups) were in action at the inaugural 2019 Home Nations Tournament in Perth over the weekend of April 6-7.

They were three of 15 partnerships selected for the Scotland acrobatic team following trials held in February but another, senior women's group trio Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands, who finished fourth at last year's World Championships, had to withdraw because of injury.

The new competition, which saw acrobatic and artistic gymnasts from Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man take part, was the first time that those three disciplines had come together in the same arena and was developed with a focus on performance development.

On the opening day of competition, gymnasts competed in the men's and women's artistic team and individual all-round events, alongside the acrobatic team discipline, while day two saw artistic gymnasts battle it out on apparatus finals and acrobatic gymnasts compete in the individual partnership finals.

All three Acrobay partnerships gave their all in the team competition on the Saturday, producing accomplished, high-scoring performances that delighted the audience and judges alike, which contributed greatly to the Scottish team's overall score.

At the end of a long but exciting day, it was announced that Scotland were the Acrobatic Home Nations champions with a final score of 264.80, which placed them ahead of silver medal winners Wales (250.98), and third-placed Ireland (244.28).

There was no stopping the Acrobay girls when they returned on the Sunday to compete for individual medals in the acrobatic partnerships finals as, after performing beautiful routines, they wowed the assembled crowd with a hat-trick of gold medals.

Their achievements delighted the club's head coach, Suzanne Fraser, who herself was selected as Scotland's acro team coach.

She said: "It was a fantastic weekend with amazing results, and it was great seeing artistic and acrobatic gymnasts competing in the same event. Our gymnasts rose to the challenge and performed outstanding routines to help Team Scotland win the Team Trophy;, they should all feel very proud of themselves.

"I'd also like to say a big thank you to Scottish Gymnastics for organising and hosting such a great event."
