CAROLINE WEIR has been confirmed in the Scotland squad that will compete at this summer's World Cup finals in France.

The former Pittencrieff Primary and Dunfermline High School pupil, 23, is one of 23 players selected by head coach Shelley Kerr for the tournament in France, which kicks off next month.

It will be the first time that the Scots have participated in the Women's World Cup, two years on from reaching their maiden tournament finals at Euro 2017.

Manchester City midfielder Weir, who lifted the FA Cup on May 4 after a 3-0 win over West Ham United at Wembley, has won 62 caps for her country since making her debut in a friendly with Iceland six years ago.

She featured in each match during the European Championships in the Netherlands, which included scoring the only goal as Scotland secured their first tournament win over Spain, and was a prominent member of Kerr's side as they secured their place in France.

Qualification for the finals, where they will face England, Japan and Argentina, was secured with a 2-1 win in Albania after they had seen off previous group leaders Switzerland in the first of a crucial double-header.

Scotland kick-off their campaign against the Auld Enemy on June 9 in Nice before facing Japan in Rennes five days later.

They finish off their Group D fixtures against Argentina in Paris on June 19.
