The League Cup starts this weekend and St. Mirren versus Dunfermline is being screened live on Sunday afternoon (BT Sport 1, 2:30pm).

The bookmakers, with little to go on, have gone with the relative standings of the two teams based on last season: St. Mirren are 7/10 (Betway), a draw 3/1 (Betvictor) and the Pars 4/1 (Bet365/Hills).

This is the kind of match you bet on if you have the inside track on how strong the respective teams will be, something that could be determined close to kick-off.

Without this knowledge, assessing the outcome becomes a bit of a guessing game.

Prediction: St.Mirren 1 Dunfermline 1.

A possible alternative to betting on the game is to wager on who will top Group G.

Betfred’s prices for the section are St.Mirren 3/10; Dunfermline 10/3; Edinburgh City 11/1; Albion Rovers 25/1 and East Kilbride 28/1.

The outright prices for the competition are as follows: Celtic 11/8 (Betfred); Rangers 4/1 (Betfred); Aberdeen 16/1 (Betvictor); Hibernian 20/1; Hearts 22/1 (Bet365); Kilmarnock 25/1 (Bet365) and St.Johnstone 33/1. Dunfermline are 100/1 with Betfred (who are paying each way ½ odds, 1,2).

One other game is being televised; the Group A clash between Hearts and Dundee United (BT Sport, tonight, 7:45pm). The prices for this battle are the Jambos 6/10 (Hills); a draw 16/5 (Betway) and the Terrors 5/1 (Bet365).

Wimbledon fortnight is drawing to a close and the Mens singles semi-finals take place today.

The three market leaders have duly swept to the last four along with outsider Roberto Bautista-Agut and the revised outright prices are now Novak Djokovic 7/10; Rafael Nadal 3/1; Roger Federer 4/1 and Bautista-Agut 40/1.

Djokovic has the easiest match and is 1/10 (Unibet) to see off the 23rd seeded Spaniard. Bautista-Agut is 8/1 (Spreadex) and Hills even price him at 11/20 not to win a set.

The mouthwatering Nadal versus Federer clash is understandably predicted to be much closer; Nadal is 3/4 (Betfair Sportsbook) and Federer 23/20 (Unibet).

The Ladies final on Saturday sees Serena Williams line up against Simona Halep.

Williams is 11/20 (Unibet) to capture the title, Halep 33/20 (Bet365). Plenty of other markets are available to choose from: Williams to win in straight sets is 29/20 (Unibet); Williams 2-1 3/1; Halep 2-0 7/2 (Paddy Power); Halep 2-1 9/2.

Total Games are Under 22 at evens (Paddy Power) and Over 21.5 at 9/10 (Betvictor). Individual set scores and will there be a tie break are further options to explore.
