FOUR athletes with Pitreavie AAC will don Scotland vests after being selected for an international match in Wales later this month.

Billy Doyle, Ryan Woods, Bethany McAndrew and Jade Hutchison have been picked by Scottish Athletics for the Welsh Under-20 International, which takes place on July 24 at the Cardiff International Sports Campus.

The event, which will feature men’s and women’s events in the 100 metres, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 110m hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot putt, discuss, hammer and javelin, as well as 4x100m and 4x400 (mixed) relays, will see 28 Scottish athletes compete.

They will go up against teams from Wales, Welsh Schools, three English regions, Northern Ireland and Guernsey, with the Pitreavie quartet set to compete in five events between them.

Doyle, who in May won his first senior Scotland cap at the Loughborough International in May, where he was also part of GB juniors team that won a silver medal, will run in the 400m and the mixed 4x400m relay.

Woods will go for glory in the high jump while McAndrew will run in the women’s 110m hurdles, and in the 4x100m women’s relay, in which she will be joined by Hutchison.

Speaking to Press Sport following his selection, Doyle said: “It’s always brilliant; the feeling of being selected for a team like that never really goes away.

“I think Scottish Athletics are trying to get to more under-20 competitions, and it’s nice that they’re bridging that gap (between under-17 and senior competition).”
