THEY may have been small in number but swimmers from Incas were big on medals when they competed at a recent event in Cumbernauld.

A strong contingent of club members travelled west to Cumbernauld Swimming Club's annual autumn graded meet and, although they were the East District's only representatives, they were rewarded with a clutch of podiums and personal bests.

Their top performer during the weekend was Sophie Ingram who, in competing in the girls' 14 years category, came home with two gold medals and four silver.

Her race wins arrived in the 50 metres butterfly and breaststroke, with second places earned in the 50m backstroke and freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 100m individual medley, while five out of her six swims also resulted in new PBs.

Leonie Bedborough, swimming in the girls' 10 years category, earned one silver and three bronze medals, in the 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 100m individual medley and 200m freestyle, as well as placing fourth and sixth in the 50m butterfly and freestyle, on her way to four PBs.

There was a hat-trick of silver medals for Taylor Hutton in the boys' 10 years age group – in the 50m freestyle, 100m individual medley, and 200m freestyle – and fourth and fifth places in the 50m backstroke and breaststroke, with four of those swims resulting in new best times.

A 100 per cent PB rate was achieved by Emma Henderson, who also won the girls' 12 years 50m butterfly gold and 200m bronze, from six swims, a feat matched by Casey Drummond, who claimed bronze in the girls' 13 years 50m backstroke.

Other swimmers to place included Faye Hunter, who was fifth in the girls' 13 years 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly, and who earned six PBs; Evan Collins, who was sixth in the girls' 13 years' 50m fly and earned four PBs; and Cerys Coppins, who was sixth in the girls' 8-9 years' 200m freestyle, and who earned five PBs.

Mirren Bain also competed in the girls' 11 years age group and achieved three new best times, while Sarah Brunton swam in the girls' 8-9 age group, and came within a second of her PBs for the 50m backstroke and freestyle.
