THE holidays meant sporty days for more than 100 West Fife kids as they converged on Rosyth to try a variety of activities.

Following the success of its summer equivalent, in which around 50 youngsters aged between 5-12 took part, the youth arm of Rosyth Football Club organised another free sports camp during the October break.

Held at the Fleet Grounds, the programme was held over three days this week and invited school pupils to try sports such as football, tennis, cricket and unihoc, a type of floor hockey.

The camps were held in collaboration with the South West Fife Community Sports Partnership, operators of the Fleet Grounds facility, Fife Council and its 'Cafe Inc' initiative, which serves up free lunches across the Kingdom, and the Rosyth EATS project, who also assisted in providing meals for the kids.

Club treasurer, Nadine Paterson, said: "Some of the activities in this camp included football, unihoc, tennis and cricket, and we'd like to thank Fife Council and the South West Fife Community Sports Partnership for all the great work they do to support our events.

"All the kids are from different schools and football teams, but came together to have a whole load of fun.

"With the success of this camp, and the summer camps, we hope to run more during the Easter holidays."

The camp also collected donations that were handed over to the Rosyth EATS project to go towards local food banks.

Meanwhile, from next month, the club are also set to kick-off a new girls section.

From next month, players born in 2007, 2008 and 2009 can get involved with the club, who are initially creating opportunities at under-11 and under-13 age groups, to play in development and performance teams.

Girls both new to the game, or who are more experienced, are welcome to attend and training will take place at the Fleet Grounds.
