THE WORLD champion and the best of British speedway is coming to Dunfermline this Spring.

Fife Cycle Speedway will play host to the Home International event on Saturday, May 30.

It is the first time the competition has been held in Scotland since 2009, and its decade-long absence will come to an end with riders from across the UK competing at the club’s Fastbowl race track at Queen Anne High School.

Clubs across the country made bids to host the event but British Cycling awarded the tournament to Fife.

Craig Masson, the club’s head coach, told Press Sport: “It is the second biggest event in the UK speedway calendar, so we’re delighted that the best riders in the UK are going to be racing at the Fastbowl.

“We’ll have current world champion Ben Mould representing Wales, as well as British champions Paul Heard, Lewis Brinkhoff and Macie Schmidt competing.

“These are big names and they’ll be at our track. It’s brilliant for the club.”

The Home International will see Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales compete against each other across four categories.

The junior category will be the one to watch for Fife as two of their riders have been selected to represent Scotland.

Harris Alsop, 16, and Kayden Davidson, 14, are both set to feature and of their selection, a proud Masson said: “It’s amazing for them.

“I’m sure they’ll do their country proud.

"We’re all about developing our riders, and this will help them. We want them to be going up against the best.

“There’s still more teams to be announced, so a few more Fife riders could still be chosen for Scotland. We’ll have to wait and see.

“Speedway is on the up in Scotland, and we’ve grown rapidly.

“Hosting the Home International is the next step in our development and we’re looking forward to it.”

Masson is hoping the tournament will attract a great turnout and he added that Fife would be sending out invites to all local schools.

“We want to encourage pupils to take part in speedway and we’ll be hosting a taster session right after the event ends,” he said.

“All the equipment will be provided, so anyone interested can give it a go.”
