DUNFERMLINE Athletic's ladies overturned a first-half deficit to blow BSC Glasgow off course in their season opener on Sunday.

After their scheduled league match, against Stonehaven in the Scottish Women's Football (SWF) Championship North, was called off on February 9 due to the weather, the Pars finally got up and running in the SWF Championship Cup.

Played in atrocious conditions at the Fleet Grounds, the visitors benefited from playing with the wind in the opening period, and took the lead after just 10 minutes.

Just shy of the half-hour mark, however, the home team drew level when Brodie Rigby-Wilson finished off a well-worked team move, but, seven minutes from half-time, they fell behind again when a shot from the edge of the area flew beyond Pars keeper – and manager – Katie Bennett.

But, playing with the wind, Athletic were a different proposition after the interval and, within two minutes, were level when Rigby-Wilson slotted home after being played in by skipper Jenna Sexton.

Within 60 seconds, Dunfermline took the lead for the first time thanks to Kirsty Scott, and they soon had a two-goal cushion when Alix Moodie took advantage of a scramble in the box to fire home.

Midway through the half, Rigby-Wilson completed her hat-trick with a fine strike from the edge of the area, before Moodie doubled her tally to make it 6-2 with 15 minutes to go.

The gloss on a fine second half was added in the final minute when, from Moodie's corner, Scott was there to head home and seal Dunfermline's place in the second round, where they will host Dundee West on March 1.

To complete a fine weekend for the club, Dunfermline's under-21 side got their SWFL Cup campaign under way with a 2-1 victory at Buchan Ladies Youth, ahead of a meeting with Bayside Ladies at the Fleet Grounds on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Bayside saw what would have been their first competitive match of the season – at home to Dryburgh Athletic under-21s – called off due to a waterlogged pitch, while Kelty Hearts' SWF Championship Cup match at Dryburgh was also postponed.

If they prevail in the rearranged tie, they will go to either Edinburgh Caledonia or Grampian in round two.

In addition to the SWFL Cup match between the Pars under-21s and Bayside, the Athletic's ladies are due to play Montrose in a Championship North fixture at Links Park on Sunday.

Both matches kick off at 2pm.
