DUNFERMLINE have made their second signing of the day by swooping for ex-Scotland international Steven Whittaker.

The 36-year-old, who was recently released by Hibernian after a second spell at Easter Road, has joined on a one-year player/coach role.

He joins former Dundee United centre back Paul Watson, who was unveiled earlier this afternoon, in joining Stevie Crawford's side for the upcoming campaign.

Dunfermline Press:

Whittaker, who can also count Norwich City and Rangers amongst his former clubs, began his senior career with the Hibees, making his debut in a 1-0 win at St Johnstone in 2002.

The versatile full-back, who has won 31 caps for the national side, won the League Cup during his first spell at Hibs before moving to Rangers in 2007.

In five years at Ibrox, he started the 2008 UEFA Cup final, alongside Kelty Hearts boss Barry Ferguson, as they lost to Zenit St Petersburg, and won three more League Cups, three SPL titles, and the Scottish Cup twice.

From Rangers, he moved to the English Premier League with Norwich City and, after five years with the Canaries, returned to Hibernian on a three-year contract in 2017.

He was one of three first team players to leave Leith following the conclusion of last season.
