IT’S been a tough year for sports clubs across West Fife but Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey Club are celebrating a youth funding boost.

Thanks to Miller Homes, they have been given a £500 donation towards helping bring through the next generation as they begin to plan for what they hope will be the ability to host larger events in 2021.

The club, who are based at Woodmill High School, have set the wheels in motion to organise a hockey festival next year with the involvement of seven high schools and the support of Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council and Active Schools Fife.

Calum Wood, Dunfermline Carnegie’s under-15 boys’ youth coach, commented: “We’re delighted by the financial contribution from Miller Homes and really appreciate them helping out our community club.

“The donation will be put towards funding our new hockey festival, which we hope is going to really inspire more kids to get involved.

“When it comes to our community’s mental and physical wellbeing, youth sport is more important than ever. The support from Miller Homes will enable our club to keep helping local children get active and enjoy the benefits of hockey.”

Neil Gaffney, sales and marketing director for Miller Homes, said: “We’re delighted to support Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey Club with this donation and see the great work they’re doing to support children’s health and wellbeing.

“Dunfermline already has wonderful sporting facilities so it’s great to see the hockey club getting the next generation excited about sport, and we look forward to hearing about the festival.”

Miller Homes’ development sales manager, Charlotte McLinton, joined players from the club at their new Lapwing Brae ‘Fletcher’ showhome to celebrate the donation.
