DATES for two of the biggest events on Knockhill Racing Circuit’s calendar are to return in 2021 after provisional schedules were revealed.

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) and Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) are set to take to the track next year, with the former making a comeback after being absent in 2020.

Scotland’s national motorsport centre had been due to host a round of the BSB over the weekend of July 10-12 but, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, it was cancelled.

The competition’s organiser, MSVR (MotorSport Vision Racing), released an updated calendar for the 2020 season, featuring six, triple-header events, nine fewer than in a regular year.

That meant Knockhill was one of the venues that missed out on hosting the superbikes but both BSB and circuit bosses have announced that, provisionally, they will return for round four of the 2021 season over July 9-11.

It has also been confirmed that the BTCC, in which Rory Butcher, whose dad, Derek, is the circuit’s CEO and owner, competes, will be held over the weekend of August 14-15.

It remains unclear whether spectators, or how many, may be admitted to both events but Knockhill managing director Jillian Shedden has confirmed that tickets will have a ‘COVID guarantee’ which means that, if they don’t go ahead, customers can have a refund or have them transferred to another event.

Briefs for both the BSB and BTCC are on sale now via Knockhill’s website. Those who book in advance – on a first-come, first-served basis – will receive priority admission should crowd numbers be restricted as part of coronavirus restrictions.

In addition, circuit bosses have extended the validity of gift voucher purchases – including for track day, karting or experiences – to 18 months.

Ms Shedden commented: “We’re all really looking forward to 2021 and we’ve got lots of plans in place for experience days, track days and events.

“Knockhill Racing Circuit is a family business; we’ve been in business for 40 years and we plan to be in business for another 40 years. The team here can’t wait to welcome you in 2021 to come along and have a great day out at Scotland’s national motorsport centre.”
