PARS 2 ALLOA ATHLETIC 1

CRAIG Wighton scored a debut double as the Pars narrowly bested Alloa at East End Park.

Scott Banks was the first to threaten after two minutes but he blazed over. He would have another effort shortly after but his left-footed curler was wide of the far post with Neil Parry beaten.

The Pars did go ahead on 14 minutes when Craig Wighton grabbed his first of the afternoon. The debutant notched his first in the black and white of Dunfermline with a tidy finish. Fraser Murray cut inside off the left and fired at goal with Wighton redirecting the ball's trajectory and past Neil Parry in the Alloa goal.

It was deja-vu just before half-time as Kevin Cawley levelled for the visitors, much like he did back in October when the sides last met. Lucas Williamson's drive was parried out by Owain Fon Williams and it fell to Cawley whose shot deflected off a defender and up over the diving Fon Williams who was left wrong-footed.

Scott Taggart nearly put Alloa ahead with a stunning free-kick before half-time but his curler was saved by Fon Williams.

Peter Grant's side started the second-half better but they fell behind courtesy of Craig Wighton once again. Fraser Murray's teasing delivery was glanced home from close range by Wighton on 59 minnutes who timed his run brilliantly to grab a brace on his debut.

Alan Trouten nearly equalised on 76 minutes after meeting Innes Cameron's flick-on at the back post but his sliding effort lacked power and Owain Fon Williams made a smart stop low to his right.

It proved to be the last scare for Dunfermline as they held on to secure the three points.
