RACING at Scotland's home of motorsport is being planned for a 2021 return – with officials aiming for an April grid return.

Bosses at Knockhill have unveiled a provisional calendar of events for the coming year, which they hope will be more action packed than the last 12 months have been due to COVID-19.

One of its highest profile events, the Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB), was cancelled last year and, although it went ahead, the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) round at the circuit only went ahead without fans.

Dates for the Knockhill rounds of those competitions have been pencilled in for the weekends of July 9-11 and August 14-15 respectively, but a number of other race days have been earmarked for the track.

If Coronavirus restrictions allow, Scottish Championship Bike Racing (KMSC, Knockhill Motor Sports Club) and British F2 Sidecars would accelerate the track's season through the green lights on April 24-25.

Two new events have been earmarked to bookend the month of May, with a classic sports car club race weekend, featuring iconic racing sports and saloons from the 1960s to the 1980s that have never been seen before at Knockhill, taking place on May 1-2, followed by a British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) race weekend over May May 29-30.

Scottish Championship Car Racing (SMRC), KMSC and Super Lap Scotland events are scheduled to take place throughout until October, with a world of supercars track day and show pencilled in for June 13.

On September 12, Knockhill hope to host the 10th Scottish Ford Live and hot hatch track day - the third largest Ford event in the UK, featuring hundreds of the famous brand's cars - before another new event on September 25-26.

It is hoped a Five Nations British Rallycross – featuring 600hp (horsepower) supercars, Super 1600, RX Buggies, Retro's and Swifts – can take place, along with the postponed McRae Rally Challenge.

Originally due to be held last October, the event was organised to mark 25 years since the late Colin McRae became world rally champion, with at least six previous winners of the World Rally Championship, due to take part.

The invitational event promised spectacular wheel-to-wheel action, as well as a ‘Night with the Stars’ Q&A evening prior to racing, and a celebratory dinner for fans on the Saturday night, were also set to take place.

However, Knockhill and the McRae family decided to rearrange it, and a "two day rally spectacular" - featuring a galaxy of rally legends, Group B rally cars, "Colin's cars" and special rally features - is slated for October 2-3.

A night of fireworks and three hours of track action is then due to bring the curtain down on Knockhill's 2021 on November 6.
