SPORT during the last year may have been like no other but that hasn’t stopped clubs and individuals finding innovative alternatives.

Whether it’s organising competitions to take place virtually, or coming together through computer screens for a different kind of training effort, sport throughout the Kingdom has found ways to carry on throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

And now Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council want to hear all about those who have made it happen as part of a special prizegiving ceremony.

Each year, the sports council, which was founded in 1967 and is the second oldest in Scotland, recognises the outstanding achievements of individual athletes, coaches, clubs and volunteers during the previous 12 months with its sports awards evening.

Whilst the 2019 awards were held in February last year at Queen Anne High School, which saw swimmer, Emma Russell, named as Sports Personality of the Year, a prize sponsored by the Press, Coronavirus restrictions have prevented such a ceremony from taking place this year, whilst sporting activity throughout 2020 was also severely hit.

However, in partnership with East Fife Sports Council, Kirkcaldy and Central Fife Sports Council and Active Fife, Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council have launched the ‘Fife Sport Recognition Awards 2020’.

They are looking to recognise and give thanks to those clubs, groups and individuals who have worked tirelessly to stay connected through sport, whilst acknowledging the positive impact sport has on people’s lives across Fife.

Nominations may include coaches, parents, committee members or participants who have gone above and beyond, such as by adapting sessions or training offerings online; organising quizzes and other challenges; sharing important information about support networks that are available; or efforts made to support others within their community.

Those nominated, or submitting nominations, may live outwith Fife, but their work must have benefited individuals or communities within the Kingdom.

Every successful nominee will receive a certificate of recognition, and entries close on April 30.
