ARE there individuals, groups or clubs who have gone above and beyond to stay connected through sport during the last year?

If there are, then there's still time to submit your nominations for those who deserve recognition through the 'Fife Sport Recognition Awards 2020'.

Earlier this month, we reported that Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council had teamed up with East Fife Sports Council, Kirkcaldy and Central Fife Sports Council and Active Fife to launch the initiative.

Each year, sports councils – including that of Dunfermline and West Fife, which is the second-oldest in Scotland after being founded in 1967 – recognise the outstanding achievements of individual athletes, coaches, clubs and volunteers from the previous 12 months at a glittering prize-giving ceremony.

In February last year, Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council's awards were held at Queen Anne High School to celebrate the stars of 2019, with the Press sponsoring its Sports Personality of the Year award, which was won by swim star Emma Russell.

However, with huge swathes of sport having been cancelled and limited severely because of the outbreak of COVID-19, no such ceremony has been organised for 2020.

That led to the creation of the Fife Sport Recognition Awards, which is aiming to showcase those who have continued to be the beating heart of local sport during a year like no other.

Entries for nominations, which may include coaches, parents, committee members or participants who have gone above and beyond, such as by adapting sessions or training offerings online; organising quizzes and other challenges; sharing important information about support networks that are available; or efforts made to support others within their community, close tomorrow (Friday).

Those nominated, or submitting nominations, may live outwith Fife, but their work must have benefited individuals or communities within the Kingdom.

Every successful nominee will receive a certificate of recognition and, if you would like to put someone forward, visit https://forms.office.com/r/7n9BB88SYi, or the Active Fife Facebook page.
