TWO of Dunfermline's loan players from this season have been named in the Scotland under-21 squad for a friendly double-header next month.

Scott Banks and Lewis Mayo are in a 24-man squad that will play Northern Ireland in friendly matches in Dumbarton on June 2 and June 5.

It will be the first time in six months that Scot Gemmill's side have played, and Mayo - who spent the season with Athletic from Rangers - is one of only three players selected that were in the previous squad in October 2020.

That was for the final qualification matches for the UEFA Under-21 Championship, with Scotland drawing 2-2 at home to Croatia and losing 1-0 in Greece, which end their hopes of reaching the tournament.

Mayo, who has won three under-21 caps, was an unused substitute on both occasions.

He played in 26 of the 36 games Dunfermline played as they reached the Premiership play-off quarter-finals, whilst Banks, who joined from Crystal Palace in January, played 13 times in black and white.

The 19-year-old, formerly of Dundee United, has yet to win an under-21 cap but has won two for the under-19s.

The matches at Dumbarton's C&G Systems Stadium will be held behind closed doors, and will provide Gemmill with preparation ahead of the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers getting underway in September.
