FORMER Kelty Hearts boss Barry Ferguson has been appointed as the new manager of Alloa Athletic.

It was announced on Monday, less than 24 hours after guiding Kelty into the SPFL for the first time in its history that he would be leaving New Central Park for pastures new.

A 1-0 win at Brechin City completed a 3-1 aggregate victory in the League Two play-off final, meaning Kelty will play in League Two next season.

However, for Ferguson, he will find himself trying to lead League One Alloa back into the Championship after the club's relegation at the end of the 2020/21 season, filling the space vacated by outgoing boss Peter Grant.

As previously reported by the Press, Kelty said they would be "forever grateful" to the former Rangers and Scotland captain for delivering back-to-back Lowland League titles and SPFL football.

And, today (Thursday), Ferguson spoke to our sister paper, the Alloa Advertiser, about his new job and told sports reporter Ciaran Vance what his ambitions are for the Wasps.
