ATHLETIC have unveiled the new kits that they hope will help them shine when the new season kicks-off next month.

And Press Sport are giving one lucky reader the chance to cheer on the team in style with their choice of a home or away shirt in our fan-tastic competition.

As revealed last week, this season’s tops have been designed with the involvement of a number of Pars fans.

For the home version, it has been inspired by legendary former captain, Norrie McCathie, who passed away aged just 34 in January 1996.

When he died, Norrie was just three games short of making 500 league appearances for the club but, in an emotional 1995-96 season, his team-mates went on to win the First Division title in his honour.

The working group of fans involved in the shirt’s design process wanted to pay homage to one of the greatest-ever Pars, a quarter-of-a-century on from his passing.

And, for the away kit, they have been inspired by a kit that the Press described at the time of its launch as “radical” way back in 1994.

While the 2021 version is slightly different from the green-and-purple-striped effort of that time, it nevertheless is a bold change shirt and a classic re-imagined, taking its colours and giving a modern take on a cult classic.

For the first time, a number of supporters – including many faces from the stands at East End that will be recognisable to large sections of the support – have been involved in the shirts’ design over the last eight months.

From an introductory meeting that examined global kit trends and debating how many stripes make up the ‘perfect’ home shirt, to follow-up Zoom calls analysing mock-ups before choosing the final designs, the new kits have been led by the fans.
