THERE was another busy weekend of hockey for Dunfermline Carnegie and the ladies’ firsts played out an eight-goal thriller at Livingston.

In what was their first away game in this season’s East District Division One, they fell behind but fought back to lead 2-1 at half-time.

The hosts hit back in the second half with three goals of their own but two more from Carnegie ensured the contest ended in a 4-4 draw, a result which moves them on to four points following their opening win over Grange thirds.

The seconds are third in Division Three, one point off the top having played a game fewer, after beating WIT seconds 2-0, while there was a narrow defeat for the thirds against Inverleith thirds.

The Division Four match was their fourth of the season, with Carnegie having picked up one point prior, and it was an evenly-matched contest in the opening half at Woodmill.

Both teams were able to counter strongly, while having a strong defensive press, but Inverleith did have a goal disallowed as an umpire spotted contact between one of their player’s feet and the ball.

Carnegie themselves had two opportunities to score as the teams went into the break level, after which saw quick pace and strong, long passing from the visitors’ defensive 16.

That began to penetrate Carnegie’s press, and put pressure on their defence, and Inverleith began to win a number of short corners.

Unfortunately for Carnegie, one of them paid dividends as, despite Most Valuable Player Sarah Deighan making a magnificent save, an unfortunate deflection off a home player’s stick saw the ball hit the net and give the visitors a one-goal win.

There was better fortune for the development side, however, as they defeated Eskvale 5-0 in Division Five.

Emily Gillespie and Gabrielle Wood made their senior league debuts in a fine performance which saw the Eskvale goalkeeper produce an excellent display.

Meanwhile, the men’s thirds, fourths and development squads were all in action and had contrasting fortunes.

The thirds fell to a 4-1 loss to Edinburgh University fives in East Division One; the fours lost out 2-1 at home to ESM thirds in Division Three; and the development side won 9-0 against Eskvale.
