East of Scotland League, Premier Division:

Crossgates Primrose 4

Whitehill Welfare 3

ALAN CAMPBELL admitted that he had “never seen a stranger game in my life” after nine-man Crossgates Primrose held on to beat Whitehill Welfare by the odd-goal-in-seven.

Brian Ritchie gave Crossgates a first-minute lead, which he soon doubled, before a Scott Lawrie penalty put them three goals up.

A red card for Craig McGuire for two bookable offences saw Primrose go down to 10 men before the break but Lawrie added a fourth early in the second half.

Ryan Hodge pulled one back for Welfare, with Ryan Weir adding another, after which another red card was flashed in the direction of Colin Paterson.

Liam Ireland scored Whitehill’s third with 16 minutes to go but Crossgates held on, and Campbell said: “It was a great result.

“Probably in all my time watching football, I’ve never seen a stranger game in my life.

"I saw a different side in the last 20 minutes. We dug in, defended well and saw it out.”

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 4

Dunbar United 1

GREIG SPENCE netted a treble in an impressive win over Dunbar United.

The 29-year-old took his goal tally for the club to 25 in 24 appearances, while Charlie Simpson scored the other for Grant Brough’s side in the second half after a scoreless opening 45 minutes.

Ben Bathgate scored Dunbar’s consolation, and Brough said: “In the first half, we played well but could’ve played five or 10 yards higher up the pitch, in the second half, the boys were first class.

“It’s probably the best we’ve played over 90 minutes this season.”

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference A:

Leith Athletic 5 Rosyth 2

ROSYTH co-manager Russell Craig felt the final scoreline wasn’t a true reflection of their encounter with second-top Leith Athletic.

Martin Maughan’s double and a goal from Kayne Paterson, despite Gregg Page netting for the visitors, had the hosts in control at the break but Stevie Slimmings pulled another back with 10 minutes to go.

However, two more goals from Paterson saw Rosyth leave empty-handed, and Craig noted: “At 3-2, with 10 minutes to go, we had them on the ropes but they sucker-punched us with two late goals.

“It was not a 5-2 hammering; we were always in it until the last five minutes.”

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference B:

Hawick Royal Albert United 0

Oakley United 6

OAKLEY UNITED are seven points off the summit after a thumping win at Hawick Royal Albert United.

Stephen Day’s hat-trick, strikes from Craig Martin and Jack Cowan, plus an own goal, gave Stewart Kenny’s side a comprehensive victory.

Oakley are third in the table with 30 points, behind leaders Glenrothes and second-placed Preston Athletic.
