East of Scotland League, Premier Division:

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 1 Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale 0

TALISMAN Greig Spence was Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts' hero once more with a late winner against Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale.

The former Cowdenbeath, Raith Rovers and Alloa Athletic striker's effort with five minutes to go secured a narrow success that secured a second successive home win.

Grant Brough's side are unbeaten in three, and are ninth in the table with 28 points, ahead of this weekend's visit to table-toppers Penicuik Athletic.

"I was a wee bit worried going into the game as they've been on a good run," the Swifts boss said.

"To come away with three points is pleasing. It was a tight game and opposite to the week before at Musselburgh, which you would've said was a good, entertaining game. Saturday was more of a scruffy game, so to nick it at the end, I was delighted.

"It was a quality finish from Greig but I was tempted to take him off. He was carrying a wee twinge and he wasn't having his best game but if you get one chance, you want it to fall to him.

"It did and he took it."

On the trip to Penicuik, who have lost only one league match, Brough added: "They're top of the league and are a good side but we ran them close when we played them at ours (a 3-1 defeat).

"Going down to 10 men was our downfall so if we can keep 11 men on the park and do what we've been doing, we've got a chance."

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference A:

Edinburgh United 0 Rosyth 3

ROSYTH co-manager Russell Craig described his team as "phenomenal" after they earned an impressive win.

The visitors took a 25th-minute lead thanks to full back Graeme Nutt's chip from 18 yards and were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to Michael Ness' cross-cum-shot.

Regan Lumsden won a second-half penalty, which he converted, to complete the scoring, and Craig enthused: "The team were phenomenal on Saturday.

"We were down to the bare minimum; we only had 13-14 available due to illness and injury. To go across there and put on the performance that they put in was just phenomenal.

"Our back four were really strong. What we did do is what teams have done against us – we scored at the right times.

"It was great to see that desire and will to keep a clean sheet."

Rosyth were missing influential players such as forward Tam Hampson, midfielder Stevie Slimmings and defender Dean Anderson, but the performances of Kyle Walls and Ryan McDonald in particular stood out.

"It was what we needed," Craig added.

"We've got a run of fixtures coming up where we hope to build on that result."

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference B:

Burntisland Shipyard 1 Oakley United 3

STEWART KENNY described Oakley United's victory as a great result but a "horrible" game.

The Blairwood Park outfit stretched their unbeaten league run to six matches – with all but one ending in victory – to go second in Conference B.

They had to do it the hard way, with Ben Anthony's strike giving the Shipyard an early lead, which was cancelled out within three minutes thanks to Craig Martin's header.

Jack Cowan gave Oakley the lead ahead of the interval before a second goal from Martin, 60 seconds into the second period, from the penalty spot sealed the three points, with Shaun Keatings missing from 12 yards for the home side.

"It was a great result. Going away to Burntisland, you can't ask for much more, but the game itself was horrible," Kenny reflected.

"It was a good thing that we came out the other side. It was a battle on a tight park that cut up due to to the weather, and a derby, where both teams didn't give each other time on the ball.

"Both teams were missing a few personnel but, in my opinion, we were quite comfortable. They missed a penalty but, apart from that, I don't think they really had a chance in the second half.

"It was great to see some other boys on the scoresheet. When Stuart Love is not scoring, we need others to score, and on Saturday they did."

Oakley trail leaders Glenrothes by four points, having played a game more, but third-top Preston Athletic are just two points behind them with four games in hand.

"We've got six very tough games coming up," Kenny added. "Everyone will have a spell this season when they're struggling and we have to make sure that, when the top have theirs, we're ready to pounce."
