East of Scotland League, Premier Division:

Penicuik Athletic 2 Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 2

IN-FORM Greig Spence celebrated agreeing a new contract by firing home a stoppage-time equaliser for Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts at league leaders Penicuik Athletic.

The 29-year-old, with his 28th goal of the season, scored from 12 yards in the 93rd minute to cap a superb fightback from two goals down that saw Grant Brough's side become the first team to take as much as a point away from Penicuik Park this season.

That came just two days after it was announced that Spence, who can count the likes of Raith Rovers, Cowdenbeath and Alloa Athletic among his former clubs, had agreed to extend his stay with his hometown team until the end of the season.

Spence, who had signed initially until the New Year, said: "I am delighted to commit until the end of the season. So far, it’s been one of the most enjoyable seasons in my career with a fantastic group of players who give nothing but 100 per cent every week.

"The club's ambitions of driving forward on and off the park is something I want to be part of and help us achieve our goals. While playing locally with the Swifts, it's allowed me to focus on growing my plumbing and heating business which, after 14 months, is in a really healthy place.

"I was at a personal crossroads in the summer where I hadn’t been enjoying my football as much, but this season has relit a fire deep inside, which has shown on the pitch, long may it continue for a fantastic club."

Brough commented: "He's loving it. He's found it hard over the last few years in terms of his football.

"We try to be as professional as we can but, at the same time, enjoy it. It seems like he's thriving on it."

The Swifts boss was unable to attend Saturday's game but watching it back on video would have provided plenty of cheer as his team rallied to take a point.

With just over half-an-hour played, Scott McCrory-Irving converted at the far post to give Penicuik the lead and Aiden Welsh made it two for the home side with a fine finish in the 57th minute, but Inverkeithing never gave up, and halved the deficit when Josh Morris converted from inside the six-yard box with seven minutes to go before Spence then had the final say with a dramatic leveller.

Brough added: "It was a big goal for us. The boys are playing well and expect something to happen. I think our boys took a bit of stick from the opposition fans during the game so, to come back, it feels like a win. It's the first time Penicuik have dropped points at home this season as well, so that's pleasing."

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference B:

Stirling University 1 Oakley United 3

OAKLEY UNITED manager Stewart Kenny has praised his players for "starting to win ugly".

Stuart Love's first-half opener was cancelled out before the break by Andy McIvor but Craig Martin's header early in the second half, and a fine finish by Love five minutes from time, brought the three points back to Blairwood Park.

The hosts, however, struck the woodwork twice and Kenny acknowledged that his side, flying high in second place, had been in a tough match.

"It was a difficult one," he said. "Stirling are a fit, energetic young side, and they were very close to taking us all the way. I think a draw would probably have been a fair result.

"At half-time, I wasn't pleased with the first-half performance. We never got going and I told the boys at half-time that I felt we needed to give more.

"A year ago, we'd have have lost that game, or possibly drawn. We managed to get over the line and we're starting to win ugly now.

"We're in a great position just now and, in terms of looking to be mathematically safe for when the top seven split, results went for us."

Monday's fixture: East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference A – Oakley United v Newburgh Juniors (1.30pm).
