A WEST FIFE world and European martial arts champion has added further title glory to her hugely successful year.

Tae Kwon Do star Amy McNair, who in September added global gold to continental success achieved in April, picked up a further gong at the Claymore Cup competition.

The event, which was held for the first time last year, is an ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) that takes place at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.

Talented teenager Amy, who now trains with Julia Cross MBE South Queensferry Tae Kwon Do, was competing in the female 15-17 years junior sparring competition, and came out on top to take home the gold medal.

Her success, which saw her claim a £500 prize, was a first competition win in sparring for Amy, and came whilst she continues to recover from an ankle injury.

That came at the ITF World Championships, in Tampere, Finland, at which she won gold for Scotland in the junior girls' special technique discipline.

In her last year as a junior competitor, Amy repeated the feat that she had achieved at the ITF European Championships, in Romania, but injury then ruled her out of the sparring, power breaking and patterns disciplines.

Amy was formerly a member of NP Tae Kwon Do Academy, based in Walmer Drive, Dunfermline, and they had six more competitors taking part in the Claymore Cup - bringing home 10 further medals.

The club, run by sixth degree black belt, Nik Purves, a former Scotland national team member, saw Sophie Cochrane win merge sparring junior 15-17 years female yellow-red, 0-49kg gold; and Niko D'Abbraccio (sparring cadet 9-11 years male white-yellow, 150-160cm), Robynn Purves (merge pattern youth, up to eight years, female yellow-green), and Imogen Hill (merge sparring junior 15-17 years female, yellow-red, 72-100kg) pick up silver medals.

Niko (pattern cadet 9-11 years male, yellow), Robynn (merge sparring youth, up to eight years, female white-green, 130cm plus three), and Imogen (patterns junior 15-17 years female, blue to red) win bronze medals, as did Cameron Tyler (sparring cadet 9-11 years male, white-yellow, 0-130cm), and Chris Johnston (merge sparring senior / advanced senior male, green-red, 85kg plus, and merge pattern senior / advanced senior male, green-red).
