A TALENTED teenage cue star from West Fife is set to showcase his skills at a prestigious World Snooker Tour event next month.

Jack Borwick, who is from Cairneyhill, has received a wildcard entry to the BetVictor Scottish Open, which takes place at Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh, between December 11-17.

The Queen Anne High School pupil is set to cap a memorable year on the green baize by participating in the tournament courtesy of his ranking in the Scottish tour.

S5 pupil Jack participated in the BetVictor Shoot Out event, a WST ranking competition, earlier this year, which saw players play against the clock.

He faced two-time World Snooker Championship finalist, Ali Carter, at that event and has since gone on to enjoy further success.

In March, Jack celebrated his 16th birthday by winning the under-16 EBSA (European Billiards and Snooker Association) European Snooker Championship 2023 in Malta, and was a European under-18 quarter-finalist.

As well as placing third in the main Scottish tour last season, and as the highest under-21 junior player, Jack captained Scotland's youngest men's team to victory at a home internationals event, and became the Scottish national under-18 champion, defeating Amaan Iqbal 5-4 in the final, which included his highest tournament break of 119.

Jack also helped Q Club in Glasgow to win a Scottish county championship, which saw them then face England's county champions in the Raeburn Shield, which his team also won.

Speaking to Press Sport, Jack's proud mum, Suzanne, commented: "He's done brilliantly. He's had his invitation now for the Scottish Open as a wildcard, which is just amazing.

"Jack got it for being under-18 champion, but also being the highest ranked under-21 player in the Scottish main tour. He came third, behind Chris Totten, who's an ex-pro, and Michael Columb, who's been so close to being pro it's not true.

"He's done amazing, so we're there! We'll all be sitting there ready to see how he gets on the 11th of December, so we're dead excited and pleased for him.

"He's absolutely buzzing."
