OWEN MOFFAT is hoping that he can continue to catch the eye in a Dunfermline shirt after a match-winning double that his parent club's coach would have been proud of.

The 21-year-old scored his first goals for the Pars within the first seven minutes of their 2-1 win at Greenock Morton on Friday, helping his team to a first victory in four matches.

It was Moffat's eighth appearance for James McPake's side since joining on loan from Blackpool at the beginning of September.

The Stirling-born player headed south to Lancashire last August after deciding to leave Celtic, whom he joined at the age of seven, and progressed through the youth ranks to win the League Cup under Ange Postecoglou in December 2021.

Moffat is yet to make a first team appearance for the Seasiders, having initially linked up with their development squad, who are coached by former Queen of the South strike star Stephen Dobbie.

A legend at Palmerston, he is also a hero at Blackpool, who helped win promotion to the Premier League during the first of three loan spells at Bloomfield Road, and Moffat is aiming to impress during his time at KDM Group East End Park.

"I've not spoken to Dobs (Dobbie), who is my coach at Blackpool but I'm sure he would've been watching," he said after the match at Cappielow.

"I think it was apparent that I wasn't going to break into the first team this season, so the solution was to go on loan, and that's what I wanted to do. I had the opportunity to come here last year, but I decided to go to Blackpool, to experience that down south, but it's a great club and I really wanted to come here. I just want to kick on from this, keep playing games, and keep catching the eye.

"I came here to play games and show everyone what I can do, so that's exactly what I want to do.

"We want to play as much as we can. Sometimes we need to mix it up, but I want to get on the ball, and the way we play really suits that."

Dunfermline's first win at Cappielow since March 2017 - 10 visits since had failed to yield one - was timely for McPake's side, who jumped up from eighth to fourth in the Championship table ahead of another Friday night clash this weekend, against league leaders, Dundee United.

"Obviously last week (at Raith Rovers, when the Pars lost 1-0) we performed well but the result wasn't with it, and a few weeks before that, we never really performed well," Moffat said.

"As I said last week, the better team probably won on those two days against Ayr United and Partick Thistle.

"We needed the three points and we're really happy to come away with that.

"It just shows you (the jumping of places) how competitive the league is. You can be anywhere come a Saturday night, so we're really happy to move up the places, and we just want to build on this."
