Annan Athletic 2 Kelty Hearts 2

MICHAEL TIDSER believes that Kelty Hearts' comeback point at Annan Athletic could be a "valuable" one but felt his team weren't ruthless enough.

Lewis Moore's late penalty brought them level for a second time at Galabank on Saturday to keep the New Central Park outfit in the promotion play-off places.

The visitors had been held by their promoted opponents in their first meeting of the season in September, when Aidan Smith's late leveller cancelled out Craig Johnston's opener, but there was a role reversal on Saturday.

Peter Murphy's hosts opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Michael Garrity's right-foot shot from outside the box found the bottom corner, but Reece Lyon, four minutes from half-time, responded by scoring his fifth goal for Kelty with a finish from inside the area.

Midway through the second period, Smith notched his second goal in as many games against Tidser's side to give Annan the lead for a second time, but their hopes of a first win in six were dashed two minutes from time.

Referee Ross Hardie pointed to the spot after Craig Johnston was felled in the penalty area, allowing Moore to step up and equalise with his fourth goal of the season, and second in as many matches.

"It was a great strike from the boy Garrity to be fair. I know he's got that in his locker, but sometimes you need to just hold your hands up, and then we show great character to come in one each at half-time," Tidser told Press Sport.

"I thought for the last 20-25 minutes of the first half we were really dominant, but I did comment at half-time and I said, look, no silly fouls. We give away a foul but we know they go long ball a lot, and try and hit Tommy Goss, who's very good at what he does, and they get their goal from that. Then you're climbing a mountain again, but, again, we saw the reaction from the lads and the determination to never give in.

"We created four or five right good chances from our perspective. I think we had 17 corners, so that probably paints its own picture, in terms of how dominant we were without being really ruthless in the final third.

"It's probably the Achilles heel for us this season, not taking the chances we create, but I can't be too critical with the way we're playing. It's a tough league, I've said it all season, but for me, overall, you take a point and you move on.

"I think you can probably see from when do score, at both our goals, the boys are running to grab the ball. I reckon if there's an extra 5-10 minutes, we probably go on to win the game because we were that dominant in the way we were playing.

"A point on the road, sometimes you've just got to grit your teeth and get on with it because it might be a valuable point come the end of the season."
