THE head coach of Acrobay Gymnastics Club has said picking up two accolades at a prestigious national prizegiving ceremony was "absolutely amazing".

Suzanne Fraser has hailed the achievements of Scarlett Haldane, Emma Nelson and Ella Gracie, and the Rosyth-based club as a whole, after they picked up Junior Gymnasts of the Year, and Club of the Year, prizes at the 2023 Scottish Gymnastics Awards.

Held in Edinburgh, on Saturday November 4, 17-year-old Scarlett, 15-year-old Emma, and 12-year-old Ella, were celebrated just days after enjoying medal success at the Gutenberg Cup in Mainz, Germany, whilst representing Team GB.

In addition to the talented trio winning the Junior Gymnast of the Year prize, Acrobay were named as Club of the Year, ahead of runners-up, Dumfries Y @ Annan, and Scotia Trampoline Academy.

"The Scottish Gymnastics’ annual awards are a highlight of the year, so to see Scarlett, Emma and Ella win, as well as hearing Acrobay announced as club of the year, felt absolutely amazing," Suzanne commented.

"Acrobay isn’t just about medal-winning elite gymnasts, but is much bigger than that. It’s a huge family of dedicated coaches, volunteers, children and parents who are all an important, valued and welcome part of the club and community. We make a difference and that’s what really matters.

"Winning Club of the Year recognises that, which is why the award means so much to us."

Noting Acrobay's award win, the awards' judges said: "Acrobay caters for pre-school children through to senior performance athletes, and everyone is equally valued as a member.

"Acrobay is a big part of the community, attending local galas to encourage more participants. Their annual display in the Alhambra Theatre, showcasing different levels of gymnastics, attracts thousands of spectators, and most of their 1300 gymnasts take part in the show."

They also recognised Scarlett, Emma and Ella for having transitioned smoothly to the increased difficulty of the 12-18 years competitive age category, adding: "The girls show other gymnasts you can train hard and compete well whilst having fun and enjoying their sport.

"They have achieved a podium finish in every competition, including gold for Scotland at the International Acro Cup, and becoming 11-16 British champions."
