GOALKEEPER Deniz Mehmet was "desperate" to play on in the second half but will be assessed in the coming days by Athletic.

The goalkeeper was involved in a collision with Dundee United striker Louis Moult in the closing stages of last night's match, which the visitors won 2-1 thanks to a late strike from Chris Mochrie.

When taking a goal kick, the Pars number one slipped, with Moult seizing on his clearance.

The Tangerines player's touch was heavy, allowing Mehmet to race from his line to try and gather the loose ball, which he did, but Moult's attempt to play the ball himself saw the two collide.

Mehmet, absent for Dunfermline's first seven league games after suffering an ankle injury in training, was taken off at half-time, with Dundee loanee, Harry Sharp, replacing him.

"To be fair to Deniz, he was desperate to come back out, but when he stood up he stumbled and felt a bit light-headed," manager James McPake said.

"We're never going to take any chances with that, and I'm glad the doctor saw it and Deniz was honest enough to say he felt like that, hence the delay at the start of the second half.

"We'll assess him over the next couple of days and make sure he's okay.”

Mehmet was the second Pars star to have to go off after Michael O'Halloran went down midway through the opening period after sustaining a knock in a challenge.

Lewis McCann took his place and, when asked about O'Halloran, McPake added: "It was a knee to the back and they can be dull ones. He just couldn’t run it off; he is another that was devastated to come off. Hopefully that will be okay."
