TWO of Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey Club's ladies teams couldn't sign off for the Christmas break with victories at the weekend.

The twos, sponsored by Production Bureau, travelled to play Edinburgh Hockey Club, whilst the threes met Inverleith fours at home.

In the former encounter, Carnegie defended well under a lot of pressure from the capital side but found themselves a goal behind in the opening quarter, before a number of changes to their side saw the contest swing more firmly against them, ending in a 9-1 defeat.

Having lost 1-0 to their opponents earlier in the season, the threes were aiming to turn the tables on Inverleith fours, in a match which saw both teams enjoy even possession.

It was just as tight in relation to the attack of both sides, with Carnegie's best chance coming in the third quarter, when a two versus one attack involving Kate Wallace and Kaz Bennett ended with an effort narrowly wide of target.

Louise Baker, Fiona McPhie, Nicola Waterson and Jodie Tracey all defended short corners well to keep Inverleith out at the other end, as the game ended goalless.

Meanwhile, the men's firsts, sponsored by Edinburgh Asset Finance, opened their indoor hockey campaign, winning one of three matches.

Either side of reverses to Dundee Wanderers (6-1) and Grove Menzieshill (7-4), they defeated Clydesdale 5-4.
