NEW Pars signing Brad Holmes has said that he is ready to "prove a point" after completing a loan move to the club.

The 21-year-old completed a switch from English Football League (EFL) League One outfit Blackpool on Tuesday, and could be in line for a debut against Greenock Morton tomorrow (Saturday).

Forward Holmes, who spent the first part of the current campaign on loan at National League North side Southport, will link-up with Seasiders team-mate, Owen Moffat, who joined Athletic on a loan basis at the beginning of the season.

The Blackpool-born player signed his first professional contract with his hometown club in the summer of 2021, having made his first start for them against Bristol Rovers in May of that year, and has gone on to have loan spells in English football's non league, with FC United of Manchester, Chorley, AFC Fylde and Southport.

Dunfermline Press:

Holmes netted five goals in 21 appearances for the latter and, speaking to the club's website, he said the opportunity of senior, full-time first team football helped him make the decision to join Dunfermline.

"It is a big step up now so I have just got to prove a point," he said.

"I have not played a 23s game (for Blackpool) this season because I was out on loan, but I think there is going to be a difference from 23s, to the National League and then to the Scottish Championship.

"I got told by my agent that there was some interest on Thursday night and, as soon as I heard that, I wanted to get the ball rolling. It came through confirmed on the Monday.

"I signed an extension on my three month loan at Southport and then I thought, if I was getting game time, I would stay there. I thought I would be signing an extension again at the end of January, but as soon as this came about, there was no other option.

"At Southport I was playing wide right but my main position is upfront, forward, striker that’s where I get all my goals – I play my best part of my game there.”

Pars boss, James McPake, said he had kept an eye on Holmes' progress since last summer, when he spotted him playing in a match whilst watching Moffat.

"It is nice getting approached and noticed by the gaffer for how I played," Holmes continued.

"It was good getting to know the style of play (in training). It seems a good environment to be around. I am looking forward to getting a striking role and, of course, there is always competition for any position anywhere you go. I have just got to show that I can do it and get the trust to go and play.

"Owen said that I’d really enjoy it here. He said that it’s a young squad. He has got into the rhythm of playing men’s football, the rhythm of being around the first team and starting for the first team.

"He said that I would get on really well with the lads, which I have done so far, and hopefully I can come in, score goals and do what I need to do."

Holmes has made one start and four substitute appearances for Blackpool in League One, where they currently play, and, after signing a 12-month contract extension, made three from the bench in April 2023 whilst they were competing in the Championship.

"It was a dream come true when I made my debut, I hope to go back and make an impact for them," he added.

"It’s on the cards but football is a strange game - you don’t know where you are going to end up, who you are going to attract and who you are going to be in and around."
