PARS boss James McPake has said he'll "see what transpires" over the possibility of adding further to his squad following Chris Kane's arrival.

Following the team's defeat to Queen's Park on Saturday, McPake said that he was hoping to add "a couple of experienced bodies", and got one on Tuesday in the shape of on-loan St Johnstone forward Kane.

A move for another forward hasn't been ruled out as Athletic await news on an injury to Craig Wighton, which the manager said was "not looking great at the minute" when he spoke to Press Sport earlier this week.

Matty Todd and Alex Jakubiak are, however, close to a return, whilst Cardiff City loanee, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, will be available for this weekend's match with Arbroath.

Dunfermline Press:

"Chris was the one I was hoping to get done on Saturday morning, but that didn't come through in time, so we'll keep working away and we'll see what transpires over the course of the week," McPake explained.

"We're delighted to get him in. He's an experienced striker that's got a lot to his game. He'll fit into our squad well.

"He is an all-round number nine. I think he does get goals, he gets chances, he creates chances, and he can get your team up the pitch. He's a player that I've admired from afar for a while and I'm looking forward to working with him.

"He had been out with an injury, but we had spoken to his representatives when we were at our previous club as well about that, but obviously he was keen to stay at St Johnstone at the time, and that proved to be a decision that was good for him because he won a cup double.

"He's a player I know, a player that we've followed for a while, so he's just someone I'm looking forward to getting to work with."

A Scottish Cup and League Cup winner with Saints, Kane has played 244 games for the Perth club, including in Europe.

That big game experience is something McPake believes will benefit the younger members of his squad in their bid to move clear of danger at the bottom end of the Championship, commenting: "I think that's key.

"Certainly with the injuries, and the players we are missing, some of those players that are out are vastly experienced as well. That can have an effect on a young squad, so Chris coming in will help with that.

"He's still only 29 but he's got a lot of experience of different types of games. I can remember playing against him as a kid as well, so he has had a decent career in terms of he's won both national cups, he's played in Europe for St Johnstone, he was part of a very successful St Johnstone team and run over the course of a few seasons.

"He'll add that experience to our young squad and he'll help us."

When asked if there was any update on Wighton, who was taken off during the recent match with Greenock Morton, McPake replied: "We're awaiting a wee bit information but it's not looking great for Craig at the minute. It may be necessary to go out and get another experienced striker in as well.

"The board went out and we got Chris in, which helps. We would rather have Chris and Craig, both of them available, but we're still trying to get to the bottom of Craig's injury.

"Matty Todd and Alex Jakubiak are pretty close. I'm not quite sure if it'll be this weekend, although we'll wait and see. Malachi Fagan-Walcott will be available.

"Kyle Benedictus had a scan on Tuesday so that will get sent to specialist and we'll see where we can progress that from there.

"We're getting them back. Chris coming in adds to the squad, we're getting a few back, either this weekend or next weekend, and we'll see what more we can do."
