THE final scheduled Fife derby of the season takes place this afternoon as Dunfermline make the short trip to Kirkcaldy to tackle Raith Rovers.

James McPake's side are seeking their first win over their local rivals of the season, and to try and bounce back from Tuesday's loss to Airdrieonians, whilst their opponents are seeking to close the gap on league leaders Dundee United.

It's set to be a fascinating 90 minutes and, ahead of the game, here's what you need to know.

Form guide

Dunfermline saw a three-game unbeaten run end against Airdrieonians on Tuesday evening.

Former Pars strikers Nikolay Todorov and Gabby McGill scored the goals in a 2-0 win for the Diamonds, who had not won any of their past six meetings with Athletic, which included two losses from two this season.

Dunfermline Press:

Prior to that, a draw at Inverness Caledonian Thistle had been sandwiched between wins over Partick Thistle and Ayr United, with the former ending a nine-game winless streak.

Athletic dropped one place to sixth on Tuesday, with Airdrie moving three points ahead of them, and they sit five points behind Greenock Morton, who sit fourth and in the final promotion play-off place.

They are, though, just two points above Inverness, who sit ninth and in the relegation play-off spot.

Ian Murray's Rovers have won two of their last seven Championship outings, and have picked up one point from their last two, in a scoreless draw at home to Morton.

Last time out, last Friday evening, they let a two-goal lead slip to lose 3-2 at bottom side Arbroath.

Dundee United's midweek victory at Morton has moved them four points clear of second top Rovers, who have played a game fewer.

Recent meetings

Rovers have the bragging rights when it comes to derbies this season.

Today's meeting will be the SIXTH meeting of the teams this season - and Raith have won the last four.

Back in July, they came together in the group stage of the Viaplay Cup, playing out a 1-1 draw, with Dunfermline winning a penalty shoot-out to win a bonus point.

Thereafter, though, the fixture has gone the Kirkcaldy club's way.

They won the first league derby at East End Park by netting the only goal in August through Sam Stanton, before winning the last meeting at Stark's Park, in October, with Stanton again the match winner.

In November, Raith enjoyed a convincing 3-0 Scottish Cup success at East End, before returning there on January 2 to record a 2-1 win.

According to Soccerbase, Dunfermline lead both the league and overall head-to-head records.

In the league, the Pars have 43 wins to Rovers' 37, with 28 games drawn, whilst, overall, Athletic have 50 victories in the fixture to Raith's 46, with 32 games drawn.

Team news

Dunfermline will assess Chris Kane, who missed the defeat to Airdrie with fatigue, ahead of kick-off, as well as Miles Welch-Hayes.

From the dugout

James McPake: "If anybody is due anything, it’s the fans. They want to see a derby win.

"For us, it’s a game we want to go there and be competitive in, and play our way. The squad is better now and it’s stronger, and we’re looking forward to it."
