HEAD COACH Charles Dignan is remaining upbeat heading into this weekend's Scottish Women's Football League (SWFL) Plate quarter-final despite watching Dunfermline Athletic Ladies' unbeaten run come to an end.

After seven successive victories, six of which were in competitive matches, the Pars lost out by a single goal to Glenrothes Strollers on Sunday.

Visiting captain, Lucy Bryant, netted the decisive effort with 11 minutes to go at Pitreavie, a result that leaves Dunfermline fifth in the SWFL East league, but just three points behind second-placed Edinburgh University Thistle.

Focus now turns to this Sunday's last-eight tie at home to Linlithgow Rose, and Dignan, whose side had won four league fixtures in a row prior to the Strollers loss, scoring 20 goals and losing only three, commented: "I was disappointed not to come away with a result on Sunday.

"I thought the game had 0-0 written all over it, although, looking back, Glenrothes probably did have the better chances in the second half. Many, if not all of them, came from us either not holding the ball up, not making the correct choice of pass or, even worse, letting the opposition run beyond us, so we allowed a bit of pressure as a result of this.

"However, progression comes in many forms, and the last time the two sides played before we were in charge, Glenrothes won 6-0, so from that perspective we were definitely competitive.

"We have been on a great run, having won the last seven games including a friendly, and we have a quarter-final to look forward to on Sunday.

"In football, you won't win them all, and winning football games is hard, so we need to dust ourselves down and keep believing in the process and the journey we are on.

"We have said since we came in, in the league, we will take one game at a time, and we believe we have a real chance at winning the Plate, and nothing's changed as a result of Sunday."

Sunday's tie at Pitreavie is scheduled to kick off at 1.30pm.
