THERE was disappointment for a trio of Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey Club ladies teams when they took to the field for matches over the past week.

Last Wednesday evening, the ladies firsts and seconds were both in action, whilst the thirds completed their league fixtures on Saturday.

The firsts took on Uddingston Hockey Club ladies seconds in a rearranged Scottish Hockey Women's Championship One match at Woodmill High School, but lost 2-0, whilst the seconds lost to Watsonian Hockey Club ladies fives.

In the game at Peffermill Carnegie, sponsored by Production Bureau, lost an early, unfortunate goal in their East District Division Two encounter, but fought back to equalise in the second quarter.

However, with their stamina beginning to drop after putting in plenty of hard work, Dunfermline conceded a second in the third period, but they kept pushing up the pitch to try and find a leveller.

Despite having a couple of good efforts, they couldn't find the net, and the hosts scored a third in the final quarter to complete a 3-1 victory. Gabbi Wood was awarded MVP.

On Saturday, Carnegie ladies thirds travelled to Tweedbank to play Fjordhus Reivers fives for their final game of the East District Division Four season.

From the outset, play was relatively even, but, from their first short corner of the game, the home side opened the scoring with a high reverse strike that deflected off goalkeeper Sarah Deighan.

In the second period, Reivers netted a second goal from a short corner, but Carnegie, who'd had good forays in attack, continued to pressurise their opponents, with Elise McKenzie particularly unfortunate.

Dunfermline maintained their attacking intent going into the final period of the match, with good work from Niamh Gibbons, who shared player of the match with Louise Baker, and Emma Mathie in midfield allowing them to make multiple moves towards the Reivers 'D', but they couldn't find a goal and lost 2-0.

Meanwhile, Carnegie duo, Theo Wood and Lewis McGuinness, are set to represent Scotland in home nations competitions, at under-16 and under-18 age group levels respectively, whilst the club are also preparing to host 'Back2Hockey' sessions later this month.

Starting on Wednesday April 17, they will provide low key, fun sessions for ladies who are new to the sport, or who haven't played for a considerable period of time, whilst offering fun, physical activity and the chance to meet new people.

Sessions will run between 6-7pm at Woodmill High School and, for more information, contact Fiona McPhie by emailing getinvolved@carnegiehockey.co.uk.
