THE PARS will travel away to Livingston for the cinch Reserve Cup Final later this month, it has been confirmed.

The SPFL have confirmed that, following an agreement between both clubs, the final of this season's competition will be held at Livi's Tony Macaroni Arena on Tuesday, April 23.

Dunfermline, who were beaten by Kilmarnock in last season's final, progressed as winners of their section winners during the group phase, after two wins from three matches, to reach the semi-finals.

They took on Hamilton Academical and picked up a 3-1 victory, thanks to goals from Paul Allan, Owen Moffat and Michael O'Halloran.

Livingston defeated Ayr United 5-2 in the other last four clash to set up this season's final, and Pars first team manager, James McPake, believes it is a plus for some of the club's up-and-coming stars.

"It is good, the second final in a row. It is more about the experience, and the young boys who played in that last year will remember how hard it was going down there and playing against a first team," he said.

"There is a good chance that it could be the same this year but, with the size of our squad, it could be anything in any reserve game if everyone stays healthy, which we hope they do, and I think for the football club it is important, giving young players that exposure to games with a different pressure, where you are playing for a trophy or to get into a final.

"It doesn’t matter what level - that excites you and gets the younger ones going in terms of wanting to go out and do that.

"They will feel it after last season. It was just the Reserve Cup, but you see Kilmarnock on the pitch enjoying it, and they will be wanting to get a bit of that as well. We will look forward to it. It will be a day for the younger ones and the coaches that take the game.

"I think it is important for the academy, as much as it is not about winning games, there still has got to be an emphasis on winning.

"Yes, we want to produce our own players, but to produce players you need to get them used to winning games. You need to get them used to playing in certain situations.

"The Reserve Cup gives us that and gives us that chance to expose them to pressures that they might not get at under-18 level."

Entry prices for the match, which will kick off at 7pm, have been set at £6 for adults and £3 for over-65s, under-18s and students; while under-12s go free when accompanied by a full paying adult.

If the final is level after 90 minutes, penalty kicks will determine the winner.
