THE chairman of the Swifts paid tribute to their "absolutely superb" players for delivering silverware on an "amazing day" for the club.

Craig Reid was thrilled by the success of their senior team in lifting the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup against Dunbar United, in their first final since it launched in 2018.

He was also delighted that a huge number of youngsters who are members of the club at various age groups were able to share in their success at Newtongrange Star's New Victoria Park.

Some of the Swifts kids, with flags intact, walked out with the players ahead of kick off and, at time up, poured onto the pitch to celebrate the victory.

A number of them were also pictured with the team as they paraded the trophy, and Reid said post-match: "It was great.

"I reckoned there was probably about 150 Swifts here today, which is fantastic, a lot of good young kids, and the boys needed that support.

"It really does make a difference and it's great to see them making the effort to come an hour down to Newtongrange on a Sunday. I'm really chuffed.

"It's an amazing day.

"The guys were absolutely superb. Every single player on that pitch put every ounce of effort in that they had available to them and, to be honest with you, you couldn't ask for any more.

"Now, sitting five minutes after the game, it was pretty comfortable! I felt, apart from the odd moment when we had to deal with a little bit of pressure, generally speaking I thought the game plan was superb.

"The boys were excellent on the pitch. We nullified Dunbar to a certain extent, and we got two really, really good goals."
