CROSSGATES came out on top during their Fife derby, while Swifts surrendered a three goal lead against Heriot Watt.

No game for Oakley this week, with the Blairwood Park side prepping for their game against Stirling Uni.

Lochore Welfare 0, Crossgates Primrose 2, East of Scotland First Division

Crossgates were the victors during their Fife derby against Lochore Welfare, emerging as 2-0 winners away to Central Park.

Touch conditions for Primrose meant they had to tweak the way they played, going more direct against Lochore.

A shaky start saw them enter the break in front, after Scott Hynd was brought down in the box, converting the resulting penalty.

Lochore had chances in the second half, but Primrose stood tall to deny the hosts, earning their second through Brendan Ramsay.

“It was a typical local derby,” Alan Campbell said. “The first half was quite even and I’d maybe say Lochore edged it at times.

“They had a couple of chances to go ahead but we got the goal at half time which really settled us down.

“In the second half, we took over and were the better team, we should have went on and got the second goal.

“We were able to see it out and we got the second goal to get the points which over the piece, we were probably the better side.

“We were made to work really hard and it was a tough game but I’m pleased to get the clean sheet and the three points.”

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 3, Heriot Watt University 4, East of Scotland First Division

Swifts surrendered a three goal lead at home to Heriot Watt University, with the student side scoring four second half goals.

Gary Sibbald’s side got off to a solid start, Liam Kelly firing the Swifts in front on the 25th minute.

Just seven minutes later, Dylan Vannett would double the hosts’ lead, giving visiting Heriot Watt University a mountain to climb.

Entering half time, the message was more of the same for Swifts, who looked to kill off the game.

It looked like they had after Kelly scored his second goal of the day to put Swifts three ahead and out of reach.

It took only two minutes for Heriot Watt to pull a goal back, and from then it unravelled for the Swifts.

Two more goals followed, Heriot Watt drawing things level just 10 minutes after Kelly put Swifts three up.

Both sides battled out for the remainder of the half, but Heriot Watt struck the killing blow in the 90th minute to seal three points.

Man of the Match was awarded to Finlay Hall, who made the step up from the U20s side to star for the Swifts.

A post on their social media read: “Today’s Committee MOTM was difficult, but due to an excellent performance from one of our U20s completing his first competitive 90 minutes, Finlay Hall came out tops.

“Hopefully first of many. Wee mention to Mark Allan and Ben Ramage who were also in contention.”

No game for Oakley

Oakley had a rare week off on Saturday following their 3-1 win over Heriot Watt the weekend before in the cup.

Their next outing will be away to Stirling University in the Second Division as they hope to wrap up three points against the student side.

Peter Goldie’s side remain unbeaten in the league so far, a run they will be hoping to continue as they travel to Stirling on Saturday.

Oakley have recorded two wins and three draws, leaving them in eighth place in the league on nine points.

Saturday’s opponents Stirling University currently sit in the relegation spots on just three points, picking up one win in six from their league campaign so far.

Goldie will be aiming to carry on Oakley’s form, but will not underestimate what Stirling University could bring.

Saturday’s fixtures): East of Scotland Second Division: Stirling University v Oakley (3pm kick off). South Challenge Cup: Thorn Athletic v Crossgates (2pm kick off).
