A DUNFERMLINE teenager has been selected to represent Scotland at an upcoming karate tournament.
Ruby Clark, 14, has been called up to the Scottish Karate National Team at the upcoming World Karate Federation U21s World Championships.
The youngster will be jetting off to Jeselo in Venice to take part in the championships, hoping to bring back gold to Dunfermline.
Speaking with the Press, Ruby relayed her excitement and honour to be chosen to represent the national team at such a young age.
She said: “It’s an incredible opportunity to be selected to represent Scotland at such a high level.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without my coaches at JKS Scotland who have given me loads of support and encouragement.
“I want to wish my whole team the best of luck.”
Ruby currently trains with JKS Scotland, based on Dickson Street in Dunfermline, and regularly competes in tournaments with her club.
Her selection in the national team has been based on merit, collected from her performance in the British Internationals in Sheffield.
Ruby represented JKS Scotland in the cadet female under 47 kilogram category, practising kumite (fighting).
She picked up a gold medal for her performances, successfully retaining her title after winning the same tournament six months prior.
Ruby went on: “I was nervous and excited because I wanted to defend my title.”
The youngster now gets set to jet off to Italy for the Worlds commencing on Wednesday, October 9.
The tournament lasts four days, with Ruby aiming to put in a good performance and bring home some more medals to her growing collection.
Practicing karate for several years, Ruby displayed immense levels of passion towards her hobby, insisting it has helped her grow as a person.
“Karate isn’t just a sport,” Ruby added. “It’s helped me build confidence and made me a better person.”
