Shinty: Aberdour score seven to defeat Ardnamurchan

The Silver Sands outfit welcomed Ardnamurchan to West Fife, having drawn two and lost one of their opening three matches, and produced an outstanding display to record a 7-1 win.

After picking up a point in games with Inveraray and Kilmory, 'Dour were narrowly beaten by a single goal at Ballachulish in their previous outing, but they found their scoring form in impressive style.

A well-taken penalty from Angus Thorburn set them on their way in the seventh minute and, moments later, David MacKenzie doubled their advantage.

The home side then added two more from Ruaridh Drake-Reid, and an own goal from Michael Doherty, to find themselves four up after 17 minutes, before MacKenzie added his second, and Aberdour's fifth, before the half-time break.

David Murray then added another just after the hour mark and, although Herbie Patterson pulled one back for the visitors, Ciaran Burns added his name to the scoresheet to complete a superb day's work by Aberdour.

In their next match on Saturday, with a 2.30pm start, 'Dour travel to face the table-toppers at Ganavan Park.

Also this weekend, Aberdour's second team return to action in South Division Two.

Having lost to Tayforth and Uddingston in their opening two games, they will make the near three-hour journey to Tighnabruaich to play Kyles Athletic seconds, who are top of the standings with three wins from three outings, on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Aberdour's ladies team picked up their second successive draw in the WCA (Women's Camanachd Association) Mowi National League at home to Glengarry.

Although they twice fell behind in the opening period, Kirsty Duff and Rowan Cooper responded to take them into the break level at 2-2, before a confident home side were rewarded for the creation of several chances when Duff scored again to put them 3-2 up in the second half.

However, despite defending resolutely, 'Dour's resistance was broken with three minutes to go as Glengarry netted an equaliser to claim a share of the spoils.

The West Fifers, who are fifth in the table, are next in action on April 13 at home to leaders Dunadd, who have won both of their opening fixtures so far.
