Paralympic champion Ben Sandilands is set to switch his attention to next summer's Commonwealth Games after injury hit his World Para Athletics Championship defence.
The 22-year-old, who stormed to T20 1500 metres gold at last summer's Games in Paris, had been picked in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for the event in New Delhi, India.
Fife AC star Ben, had been aiming to repeat his 2023 World Para Athletics Championships, where he won gold in his GB debut.
Prior to the competition, he had broken his own PB (personal best), which he set whilst winning Paralympic gold with a world record time of three minutes and 45.50 seconds, with a run of 03:44.90 at the BMC Grand Prix World Athletics Challenger event in Manchester.
Ben also said that he was "in the best shape I’ve ever been", and targeted another PB, if not a victory, but his hopes were dashed when he was forced to pull out through injury.
His coach, Steve Doig, who leads a training group at Pitreavie which includes Owen Miller, the T20 1500m champion at the delayed 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, revealed that it occurred during his final training session whilst out in India.
"Ben suffered a hamstring injury during training," he said.
"We were at the holding camp in Dubai. Ironically, it was his final session, and he got hurt on the final run.
"A bit of time is needed for recovery, and then the focus turns to the Commonwealth Games."
On Tuesday, the competition schedule for next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow was revealed.
The 23rd edition of the Games will host the largest-ever para-sport programme in its history, and is set to welcome 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories.
A slimmed-down programme of events will include the T20 1500m, with Ben and Owen amongst those who will hope to be involved at the eagerly-anticipated competition.
