Dunfermline RFC beaten by Ardrossan

Dunfermline suffered a heavy loss at the hands of a “stronger and better” Ardrossan side.

Multiple absences caused issues for the Fifers, and the wet and windy conditions in North Ayrshire didn’t help one bit.

Coach Andy Royle said: “The constant battle at the moment is having a lot of players unavailable through injuries.

“We should be getting a couple of players back soon and numbers are looking good again. We’ve got to increase our quality and knuckle down a bit, but hopefully the influx of players will help.

“We’re playing a lot of these first team games with second team players and stretching them, which isn’t great for anyone.”

There wasn’t anything to shout about for the visitors, who almost ended the game without a point on the board.

But despite being outclassed by Ardrossan, the boys managed to win a consolation try in the dying minutes.

Royle added: “Pushing to score on an occasion like that shows a great team spirit, and I’m very proud of the boys just hanging on in there till the end.”

Next up, Dunfermline travel west again on Sunday to take on Whitecraigs.
