A former Carnegie Swimming Club star will hope to make a splash at the Commonwealth Games after being selected to compete.

Ollie Carter, who has most latterly been taking to the pool for the University of Stirling, has been picked by Team Scotland for this summer's event in Glasgow.

The 26-year-old is part of a seven-strong para swimming line-up that will fly the flag for the host nation.

Carter is one of four men, and three women, making up the squad that will be part of the largest para-sport programme in Commonwealth Games history.

He will be participating at the prestigious competition for a second time, having been involved in the last edition, in Birmingham, four years ago.

An S10 classification swimmer, for those who have a minimal physical impairment, Carter finished seventh in the men's 100 metre butterfly, entering poolside in a kilt, in an iconic moment at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

Others in the team include Stephen Clegg, a two-time Paralympic gold medallist at Paris 2024; Faye Rogers, who also topped the podium at those Games; and Toni Shaw, who is set to make her for her third Commonwealth Games with Team Scotland.

Making up the rest of the squad are Astird Carroll, James Clegg and Sam Downie, the latter of whom, like Carter, made his Team Scotland Games debut in Birmingham.

Elinor Middlemiss, Team Scotland Chef de Mission, said: "There is a huge amount of experience in this Para Swimming team, in both our returning athletes, and those making their Commonwealth Games debut.

"I look forward to watching these athletes deliver what I’m sure will be strong performances in Glasgow and wish them every success."

In addition to Carter, Inverkeithing para powerlifter, Finlay Davidson, will also compete at the Games as a Team Scotland debutant.

Ranked seventh in the Commonwealth, the 21-year-old will go for glory in the men's lightweight under-72kg category, and will be the first Scot to compete for a medal at the Games.

In addition, Dunfermline duo Sophie McGrouther, in the women's singles, and Sarah Jane Ewing, in her role as a para director for B2-B3 classification athlete, Robert Barr, have been selected as part of the bowls squad.

Para swimming will be begin on the first day of competition, July 24, and will run for five days.

The Commonwealth Games open on July 23 and run until August 2.
