Players from around the Kingdom and beyond recently came together for an oval ball themed day of celebration and reflection in Rosyth.

The town's rugby club, Rosyth Sharks, hosted their annual memorial tournament at Harley Street on a day to remember for those young and older alike.

The event was initially started to remember a late former player with the club, Stevie Bell, but has now evolved to commemorate others who have been involved with the Sharks that have passed away.

The day kicked off with a youth festival, which included teams from Dunfermline and Glenrothes rugby clubs, before an over-35s match took place.

That involved a team from Lasswade, and one of local 'veteran' players, the 'Port Bellies', who took to the field to raise smiles, and enjoy the sport in a friendly and welcoming environment.

A selection of the latter then joined players from the Sharks, Dunfermline, and some from Glasgow's Hyndland Rugby Club to round off the day in playing senior age group matches, after which came a presentation, barbecue, and live music.

This year's tournament also featured participation from the Sharks junior players for the first time, and included many of the 40 youngsters who train at Harley Street on Sunday mornings.

David Reynolds, who leads the club's youth programme, said: "Next season, we aim to field our own younger teams at rugby festivals, to represent Rosyth as a single team and keep developing our youth programme."

The club were also present at Rosyth Gala, hosting two bars, of which Sharks president, Ben Morris, added: "We're so proud to support the Gala each year.

"Many of our club members attended the Gala themselves when they were wee, and now get to bring their own kids, as the whole club gets involved in helping out."
