SUNDAY will be a big day for the players, officials and supporters of Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club, when they take on Kilmarnock at Lochside Park, Forfar, in the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup.
It is the latest chapter in what has been a good season for the McKane Park club, and this is indeed a big weekend for them.
But 24 hours before the big final, they take on fellow challengers for the East of Scotland First Division title, Marchmont, at McKane on Saturday.
A win for the hosts would put them in to pole position to win successive titles after collecting the Division 2 gong in 2025.
There have been some big scores recorded by DCCC in their Challenge Cup run, which saw them make the final by beating fellow First Division side, Murrayfield DAFS in the semis, when they scored 221.
Opponents Kilmarnock have been having a good season in the West of Scotland Premier League, so it will be a keenly contested final at the home of Strathmore CC.
Dunfermline and Carnegie chairman, D J Deenadalayan, is eagerly looking forward to the tie and believes his team have a good chance of winning the silverware: “This is a huge occasion for the club and reward for a great series of results throughout the many rounds they have played, ranging from travelling to Aberdeen in the north, to Hillhead in the west of Scotland.
“It is an exciting time, with the team also being involved in trying to win the East of Scotland First Division title.
“If the lads can win both games this weekend, it will be truly memorable for everyone connected with the club.”
Skipper Vasu Reddy hopes to have every one of his regular unit fit for this game, but acknowledges that winning the First Division match with Marchmont is initially key to the plans.
Despite the hectic recent packed schedule, involving First Division matches, Challenge cup-ties, and T20 Braw Skelp fixtures, everyone is fit and raring to go.
