PH Racing Club member Colin Somerville continued his excellent run of form by successfully defending his Path of Condie Half-Marathon title last Saturday.

The race, organised by Kinross Road Runners, was held for the first time last year and not only did Somerville claim victory for the second successive year, he did so by breaking his own course record.

Described by its hosts as a half-marathon with “attitude and altitude” and as “one of the most rewarding distance runs in the area”, the field of 126 competitors took on the anti-clockwise route taking in the Path of Condie from the start at Milnathort Church Hall and Somerville was in imperious form.

His impressive time of 1 hour 20 minutes and 18 seconds was one second quicker than his 2015 success and he led a top 10 home that included two more PH runners, with Martin Butcher finishing eighth in 1:25.37 and Wright Beveridge 10th after clocking 1:27.57.

Other PH finishers included Dennis Howett, who clocked 1:32.35 to finish 20th overall and third M50, and Lorraine Abbott and Brian Abbott, who, competing in the F50 and M50 age groups, finished with times of 2:13.03 and 2:13.04 respectively.

It was also a good weekend for PH’s Karen Kennedy, who was in action at the Lasswade Open Cross-Country Races in Gorebridge, Midlothian, last Sunday.

She enjoyed a strong race to finish second in 25:06 and followed on from her success at the National Relay Championships in preparation for the British and Irish Country International in a fortnight.
