RECORDS were sent tumbling as Dunfermline Track and Field stars enjoyed a superb Scottish Athletics Indoor Age Group Championships at the weekend.

The event, which was held at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena, saw medals and personal best times picked up along with a number of club records during a highly successful meet for the Pitreavie-based squad.

Under-13 runner Mya McMahon set the ball rolling by winning silver medals in the 60 metres hurdles and in the long jump, with a time and clearance of 10.13 seconds and 4.68 metres respectively.

The youngster broke both her previous personal bests and club records and she said: “I am really surprised but happy and I’m looking forward to the Combined Events national champs in March.”

Isla Steel made it through to the final of the girls’ under-15 60m hurdles and finished sixth in a PB of 9.75, a time which saw her break Dunfermline Track and Field’s previous record for the event.

More club bests were broken on the track by Eve Rennie, Daisy Cumming, Gregor Campbell and Ruaraidh Elder.

Eve’s time of 44.33 in the under-15 300m was followed by Daisy clocking 2:24.92 in the under-15 800m, Gregor breaking the under-17 400m club record in 61.51, and Ruaraidh taking the 800m indoor club best in 2:13.77.

In the field events, club records were broken again by Mya McMahon in the under-13 high jump with a clearance of 1.45m, and Ellen Rankin, who took two in the under-17 high jump (1.42m) and shot putt (9.22m).

Owen Clark broke the under-13 long jump club record with a clearance of 4.22m while Gregor Campbell added to his 400m success in the boys’ shot putt, throwing a distance of 9.28m.

Personal best times were also recorded by Cameron King and Morgan Robertson, who ran the under-13 60m hurdles and under-15 60m hurdles in 11.01 and 10.47 respectively.

Dunfermline Track and Field coach Vicky Stephen said: “I was absolutely delighted with their performances. It was great to see all their hard work at training be rewarded through great performances and we are looking forward to the Combined Events Champs next.”

The Scottish Athletics Indoor Combined Events Championship will take place at the Emirates over the weekend of March 4-5.
