RUNNERS with PH Racing Club were at their best in two separate events held over the last week.

At the Stuart Duncan 5K race in Glenrothes on Tuesday September 5, Robert Sellar, Darren Deas and Allen Marr were all in action and each recorded new PB times.

From the gun, Sellar found himself in the leading group, pushing the pace with a strong four from Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, with eventual race winner Mike Herron breaking away to take the win in 16 minutes, 36 seconds.

Sellar raced hard and, after holding off a strong challenge from Billy Gibson, finished second in a new best of 16:41, while Deas finished just outside of the podium places in a time of 17:42.

Marr also continued his impressive run of form, setting a time of 19:30 that was enough to secure the Veteran 60 title, and means he is now the fourth-fastest over the 5K distance in the country for the year.

Meanwhile, Darren Jubb and Colin Somerville continued their PH club championship battle at the Stirling 10K on Sunday.

The popular event incorporates the Scottish National 10K Championships and Jubb covered the distance in a new PB of 34:19 to close the gap on Somerville to just a single point with two races left.

Somerville also raced well, setting a new best of 34:25, while Sellar and Jonny Peebs were the next PH athletes home in 35:09 and 35:50 respectively.

Mary Western was the club’s first female finisher, placing second V50 behind Falkirk Victoria Harriers’ multiple record-holder, Fiona Matheson, and she was followed by Natalie Gilliland-Paterson and Lorraine Abbot.

V60s Ian Robert Johnston and Ed Norton enjoyed a tussle throughout, with the former just coming out on top in the race to the line.
